Murcia is one of the few places in Spain where we can find 7 Universities within a radius of 150 kilometres with more than 100,000 students. Three of them are in Murcia:

  • University of Murcia.
  • Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
  • Catholic University San Antonio de Murcia (private).

In addition, 97 Vocational Training Centers provide labour market to more than 20,000 students each year.

The University of Murcia is a state college that was founded at the end of 1914 although its origins date back to 1272, when Alfonso X El Sabio reigned.

There are more than 32,000 students in 22 faculties, 3 university schools and 1 doctoral school, where degrees are taught in the fields of sciences, arts and humanities, social and legal sciences, and health sciences.

These centers are distributed in 5 campuses:

  • Campus de La Merced.
  • Campo de Espinardo.
  • Campus de Ciencias de la Salud (El Palmar).
  • Campus de Ciencias del Deporte (San Javier).
  • Campus de Cartagena.
  • Campo de Lorca.

UNIVERSIDAD DE MURCIA (UMU)

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena is a state technical college with technological and business schools that was founded in 1998, although several of them were created at the end of the 19th century.

It has three urban campuses most of them located in historic buildings in the centre of Cartagena city where there are more than 5,450 students:

  • Alfonso XIII Campus.
  • Muralla del Mar Campus (in the old Navy Hospital and the old Antiguones Barracks).
  • CIM Campus (in the former Seafaring Instruction Headquarters).

It has 5 Higher Technical Schools of Engineering (Agronomic, Industrial, Naval, Telecommunications and Civil), the Higher Technical School of Architecture, the Faculty of Business Sciences and the Defense University Center.

The San Antonio Catholic University, also known as the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), is a private university located in Guadalupe (municipality of Murcia).

Currently, more than 15,000 students are trained at different centres, the main ones are the Murcia and Cartagena campuses.

The training offer is distributed in:

  • 9 faculties (Law, Economics and Business, Medicine, Sports, Nursing, Pharmacy and Nutrition, Education, Communication and Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Podiatry).
  • 1 Higher Polytechnic School (Degrees in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building, Computer Science and Telecommunication Technologies).

UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA DE MURCIA (UCAM)


The Region of Murcia has almost 100 Vocational Training centres that receive 30,000 new students every year who specialize, among others, in Administration, Electricity and Electronics, Pharmacy and Parapharmacy, Information and Communication, Vehicle Maintenance and Tourism.

Vocational Training offers three training levels:

  • Basic Vocational Training: Aimed at students between the ages of 15 and 17 who have not completed ESO.
  • FP Intermediate Level: In it the necessary technical skills are acquired for the development of a profession, access to the world of work, other intermediate level training cycles, the Baccalaureate or higher level training cycles.
  • Higher Vocational Training: This qualifies for incorporation into the labour market, with the ability in planning, organization and coordination responsibilities. Through it you can also access the university.

In addition, Dual Vocational Training is also offered so that students combine academic training with paid internships in a company.
