&quot;Widely known as the Pioneer Woman Statue, the bronze sculpture&apos;s true name is &quot;Confident&quot;. &nbsp;It is a heroic statue of a young, sun-bonneted pioneer mother, protectively leading her son by the hand, striding confidently, head held high&mdash;a young woman of sturdy beauty and dignity whose eyes are fixed on the far southwestern horizon. Courage, determination, and humility in her face and a bible in her hand.The Pioneer Woman Statue is seventeen feet tall and weighs twelve thousand pounds. Standing atop a quarry-stone pyramid base, the entire presentation rises to thirty-three feet. It was erected at a cost of $300,000 in 1930, an amount equal to $4,529,568.86 today.The monument was conceived, directed, and financed by Ernest Whitworth Marland, a millionaire oilman and philanthropist who later became a US Congressman and the tenth governor of Oklahoma. He wanted to create something to pay tribute to his own pioneering mother and grandmother and the other women pioneers who helped settle the new land. In 1926, he launched a design competition for the tribute. He invited 12 sculptors to submit small models and in 1927, these were exhibited in Ponca City and 13 major cities across the nation. With around 750,000 people voting for their preference, artist Bryant Baker&apos;s model was the most popular by a large margin.The sculpture was unveiled at its permanent location in Ponca City, Oklahoma on April 22, 1930, on the 41st anniversary of the first land run in Oklahoma. President Herbert Hoover gave a nationwide radio address from the White House to mark the occasion, as did Colonel Patrick J. Hurley, a native Oklahoman and Secretary of War. Oklahoma&rsquo;s favorite son and comedian, Will Rogers, was the closing speaker. A patio of approximately 500 donated pavers is located at the Veteran&apos;s Plaza war memorial at the corner of 4th and Grand. This war memorial honors those veterans from Kay County who gave their lives in the service of their country.Businesses, organizations and individuals in the Ponca City gave generously so that this Plaza could be built. Names of those businesses and organizations are engraved on granite plaques on the west side of this Plaza. But this was a community project, and everyday citizens dug deep to make this dream a reality.

Louis Haines Wentz came to Ponca City in January 1911 to manage oil for John G. McCaskey. One of Wentz&apos; wishes in creating the community space was that recreational groups of young people would have a place to gather. In 1925, construction began on Wentz camp followed by construction of the swimming pool in 1928. The pool was completed and first opened to the public in August 1930. Still intact are the original locker rooms and pool maintenance equipment, like the sand filtration system. Wentz&apos; made other contributions to the community that we still benefit from today. HE gave a $25,000 donation for the Pioneer Woman Statue. He purchased Lake Ponca and the land it touches and donated it to The City of Ponca City. Wentz gave scholarships to the first Kiowa students to attend the University of Oklahoma&apos;s art school. In 1936, Wentz and Gordon Matzene, a European photographer and art dealer, contributed an Asian collection of 758 objects to the University of Oklahoma, enabling them to establish the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.&nbsp;The Wentz Pool is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 1-7pm. The facility can also be rented out for use by the public. The grounds overlook Lake Ponca, a gift to our community from Wentz. The postcard mural was a partnership project between PCDA/City Central and former Ponca City resident and professional artist Carlene Wallace. It was inspired by vintage travel postcards of the 1950s and 1960s, and highlights several landmarks and sights in Ponca City including City Hall, the Standing Bear statue, Lake Ponca, the Pioneer woman and more. The postcard mural is visited by locals and tourists and has been highlighted in a multitude of pictures. It&apos;s definitely a stop for anyone that wants to mark their trip to Ponca City!

Kindra Riddel, who is an up-and-coming Oklahoma artist,completed and designed the piece that is featured in the alleyway at 122 E.Grand Ave. This colorful and eye-catching mural shows an embrace between twopeople and lists the number &ldquo;988&rdquo; in two sections of the artwork. 988 is thenew three-digit dialing code that connects people to the national suicide andprevention lifeline. The hope of this piece of art is to be a constant reminderthat &ldquo;To the world you are someone, but to someone you are the world&rdquo;!

The Virtual Realm Mural

As a local Ponca City artist, Theresa Sacket wanted to paint a fox mural identifiable to Ponca City. In June of 2022, Theresa contacted Alena Jennings, Owner (and a fellow artist) of the Doodle Academy to talk paint. Jennings donated the paint for this mural and a matching grant was provided by PC Arts to cover the rest of the mural costs. This Ponca City Fox can be seen duplicated throughout the community in several different color variations. Reproductions of the Ponca City fox are available for sale on prints, cards, t-shirts. Such is the popularity of this fox, a local AirBnB owner asked for it to be reproduced inside her fox inspired and decorated home away from home.

This beautiful poisonous lionfish mural was designed and executed by Kortny Miller, AKA Red Dirt Rosie, and sponsored by Lobaugh Law and The Doodle Academy. Kortney&rsquo;s vision for this mural was to have a visual representation of two items intertwined which would never be seen together in reality. &nbsp;This mural is directly across from the Ponca City library, a place where incongruous things often meet. The mixture of a poisonous lionfish and the dogwood blossoms is designed to encourage adults and children use their imaginations to create different stories and new worlds.

Every few years, the Ponca City Development Authority searches for an artist to help brighten up City Central. In 2022, PCDA created a community mural project for the public to participate in the creation of this beautiful mural. Colors coordinate with a number on the wall, almost like a paint-by-number, and this is open to all ages. Bradley Hayes, a local Ponca City artist created, designed and executed this colorful circular mural. Thank you Bradley for sharing your creative thoughts.&nbsp;

This mural was a project that was funded by Ponca CityMain Street and painted by local artist Mary Morse. Located in the alleywaybehind the Equity Bank building that is located at 222 E. Grand Ave. indowntown Ponca City, this mural features 4 sets of wings that span the side ofthe building. These unique wing murals are each painted a different color,feature different patterns and shapes, and stand at different heights to makefor a fun and interactive mural experience for people of all ages.&nbsp;

Ponca City Mainstreet and City Arts collaborated together for this beautiful and intricate mural on the Chamber of Commerce building. You can find it on the West side of the building. Artists Carlos Barboza and Virginia Sitzes were the Oklahoma artists chosen for this mural. A scissor lift was provided by Steuver Dirtworks.&nbsp;
